What's the difference between Single Page and 3-Page Checkout?

Shift4Shop allows you to choose between a single page checkout, or a standard 3 page checkout for your website. This article will give you a quick overview of the two checkout methods and the differences between each.

Single Page Checkout

Single Page Checkout allows your customer to enter all of their personal information for checkout on one web page. If you would like to use single-page checkout for your store, it is important to note the following:

  • Checkout Questions must all be entered on Step 1 of checkout.
  • If you offer the multiple ship to feature and the shopper elects to use it, the checkout will automatically revert to a 3 page checkout.

To enable the Single Page Checkout feature:

  1. Go to Settings >General >Store Settings
  2. Look along the top of the page and click on the Checkout tab.
  3. Next, look towards the "Checkout" section and mark the "Enable Single Page Checkout" checkbox.
  4. Click Save at the top right to commit your changes.

3-Page Checkout

3-Page Checkout will prompt the customer for their personal information over a series of 3 short web pages. Essentially, each step of the checkout process has its own page. If you would like to use multi-page checkout for your store, it is important to note the following:

  • Checkout questions can be added to any step of the checkout process.
  • If a customer chooses the multiple ship to feature, they will always revert to the 3-Page Checkout.

To enable the 3 Page Checkout:

  1. Go to Settings >General >Store Settings
  2. Look along the top of the page and click on the Checkout tab.
  3. Next, look towards the "Checkout" section and make sure the "Enable Single Page Checkout" checkbox is unchecked.
  4. Click Save at the top right to commit your changes.

Here's a brief description of each step of the multi-page checkout process:

  1. Step 1 will allow the shopper to log into their customer record, or otherwise enter their Shipping Information.
  2. Having entered their Shipping Information in Step 1, the shopper now has the option of selecting their desired Shipping Method.
  3. Finally, Step 3 of the checkout process is where they can enter their billing address and payment information.

Additional Information
Regardless of whether your store is using Single or 3-Page Checkout, your customer will eventually reach Checkout Step 4 which is typically referred to as the order "Thank You" page. This is the page that summarizes the shopper's order and provides them a look at their invoice.

If you are using conversion tracking scripts you will want to add these either to your checkout-step4.html template or to the footer of "Checkout #4" in the Content >Titles & Content section of your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager.
